The crew leader supervises the team to ensure proper work procedures and safe techniques are followed. Their responsibilities include preparing timesheets and production reports, maintaining the quantity and quality of work, enforcing safety practices, and managing employee, utility, and customer relations. The role may involve performing routine job functions of a spotter, flagger, ground person, tree trimmer, or crew leader. Additionally, the crew leader promotes sound personnel relations and exercises fair and reasonable judgment in resolving crew problems. With guidance from the General Foreperson, the crew leader is responsible for hiring, firing, promoting, disciplining, and training all employees assigned to the crew. Routine Job Functions: Under direct supervision of a certified supervisor and general foreperson, the Crew Leader trims and removes trees near energized utility lines. Operates power equipment such as trucks, saws, winches, lifts, chippers, sprayers, and hydraulic/pneumatic tools. Uses hand tools like saws, throw bags, handlines, and pruners weighing under 15 pounds. Handles chainsaws, pruner poles, and ropes weighing under 15 pounds. Performs tree trimming and felling tasks with chainsaws, hydraulic/pneumatic tools, and ropes under 15 pounds. Applies chemicals to brush and stumps to protect vegetation (spray container under 20 pounds). Assigns routine job functions (e.g., tree trimmer, ground person, spotter, flagger) as needed. Delegates routine tasks to crew members, except for crew supervision. Job Requirements: Lifting Frequently (1 to 15 pounds) consisting of carrying tools and equipment necessary to perform tasks. Can be accomplished with use of one hand. Carrying: Rarely (1 to 50 pounds). Picks up logs and/or pieces of wood from ground to stack/pile. Pieces are cut on the ground to any weight and size necessary for an employee’s physical capabilities. The largest saw does not weigh over 15 pounds. (Hand saw can be used as substitute for chainsaw). Standing Continuously Walking Frequent.
