Description: The Labor & Delivery unit consists of 7 L&D beds, 2 Triage beds, and 10 Postpartum beds. There are typically 1-3 births per day, totaling approximately 830 births per year. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2. Experience of 3 years is required, including emergency response capabilities. Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians and Health Unit Secretaries. Registered Nurses may occasionally assist the nurse manager with patient care needs. Nurses will be required to float to other units as needed, primarily to MedSurg. There is a need for expertise in assessment skills to handle OB emergencies until the provider arrives. Nurses should be comfortable functioning in both Labor & Delivery and couplet care settings. A call shift may be assigned at a frequency of one shift per four-week schedule. Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and collaborate with all team members is essential.
